Softball Drops Two on First Day of Red Desert Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Utah State softball lost its Friday games at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, losing 4-1 to Oregon and 5-0 to Southern Utah.

The Aggies' lone run of the day was Heather Curtis' first home run of the season. Stephanie Vasarhely was 3-3 in the game. Freshman pitcher Lindsay Janssen (1-6) took the loss.

In the second game, Southern Utah picked up its first-ever season series win over Utah State, as the Thunderbirds now own a 3-0 record against USU this season. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader in Logan on April 9. Pitcher Xochitl Ramirez (0-2) allowed two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and one in the seventh. Marcie Neff hit her second double of the season, recording the Aggies' only hit in the contest.

USU faces No. 6 Washington and BYU on Saturday.
