Final Stats
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball (3-27, 0-5) lost its home-opening doubleheader Friday to No. 7 Cal State Fullerton. The Titans took the first game, 2-0, and the second, 11-2, moving their record to 32-9 overall and 8-0 in the Big West.
Cal State Fullerton pitcher Gina Oaks (15-2) threw a no-hitter and allowed just three Aggie baserunners in the first game. She struck out eight and walked two. USU's Kristin Hommel (1-10) allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits, including a double and a home run. She threw seven innings, walked six and struck out six in the loss.
The second game ended after the fifth inning, as the Titans led USU by nine runs. Freshman pitcher Lindsay Janssen allowed nine runs, five earned, in 2.2 innings pitched. She walked two and gave up eight hits. Xochitl Ramirez came in for the Aggies in relief, working 2.1 innings, and allowing two runs on four hits.
Marcie Neff, Heather Curtis and Aimee Johnson were all 1-2 for USU in the second game. Johnson and rightfielder Marnie Andrews scored the Aggies' two runs in the game. Andrews and Stephanie Vasarhely each recorded a stolen base, while Vasarhely drove in one of USU's runs.
The Aggies and Titans play a single game Saturday at noon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
