Cal State Fullerton Sweeps Series from Softball

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball (3-28, 0-6) lost to No. 7 Cal State Fullerton (33-9, 9-0) in five innings Saturday, 13-0, giving the Titans the series sweep after two wins Friday. The last time the Aggies lost a game by at least 13 runs was against Oregon on March 17, 2000.

The Aggies were held to three hits on the day. Third baseman Stephanie Vasarhely was 1-1, Marcie Neff was 1-2 and Amanda Carlson was 1-3 on the day. The Aggie pitching staff struggled, as Kristin Hommel (1-11) started the game and allowed five runs on three hits and two bases on balls in one-third of an inning. Freshman Lindsay Janssen relieved Hommel, and lasted 2.1 innings. She gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and three walks. Janssen struck out one. Xochitl Ramirez entered the game for the Aggies in the third, worked 2.1 innings, and allowed one run on four hits. She walked one and struck out two.

Cal State Fullerton's Jodie Cox was 3-3 with seven RBIs and two runs scored. Cox posted two two-run doubles and a three-run triple. Third baseman Amy LaRocque was 3-4 with three RBIs. Pitcher Christy Robitaille (7-3) worked a complete game, and allowed three hits and two walks. She struck out six. On the weekend, the Titan pitching staff held USU's offense to six hits and two runs.

The Aggies host Utah on Tuesday, April 2 at 3 p.m. at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
