LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State's men's tennis team fell to Idaho State 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the Sports Academy. The match began outdoors, and was completed indoors because of rain. The Aggies dropped to 7-12, losing the last match of the regular season. Wednesday marked the first time in three matches this year the Bengals defeated USU.
After winning three singles matches, the Aggies lost two of three in doubles play, losing the final match by one point. Andreas Madersbacher, Jason Trask and Steve Peterson all won singles matches for the Aggies.
"Maybe it was better that we lose this one with conference coming up," said head coach Christian Wright. "We have to have 100 percent focus from everybody to have a chance at conference. We have the talent to compete with any team. We just need to have the focus and today will hopefully be a motivator."
Madersbacher improved his individual spring season record to 10-9 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1, while Trask improved his record to 13-6 with his 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot. Steve Peterson came back to win in three sets at No. 5, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles action the Peterson/Trask duo was USU's only doubles match win of the day, defeating Devidze/Sedak, 9-7.
The Aggies have two weeks to prepare for the Big West Conference Championships in Ojai, Calif., April 25-28.
