SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah State softball lost its Big West Conference doubleheader at Sacramento State Saturday, losing the first game in 11 innings, 2-1, and the second, 6-0. USU is 4-37 on the season and 0-11 in the league, while Sacramento State moves to 15-20 and 4-6.

In the first game, USU scored one run in the fourth inning as Casey Smith hit her first sacrifice fly of the season. driving in Heather Curtis. Curtis and Stephanie Vasarhely were both 2-5 in the game. Breanne Smith was 1-3 with a double.

The Hornets tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning, as shortstop Amy Hillel walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored from second base on an error by Curtis.

In the 11th inning, the leadoff batter, Cathy Coupar, reached on an error by Marcie Neff, advancing to second. Coupar moved to third on a single by Hillel, and scored on Curtis' third error of the game.

USU pitcher Lindsay Janssen (1-17) relieved starter Kristin Hommel in the seventh inning, and took the loss. Janssen and Hommel each allowed one unearned run. In 6.1 innings pitched, Hommel gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. Janssen allowed six hits in 4.1 innings and walked one.

In the second game, the Aggies allowed five runs in the first inning, and one in the second. Janssen (1-18) threw 1.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and a base on balls. Hommel worked 4.1 innings, giving up one hit. She walked two, struck out three and had one wild pitch. USU was held to three hits in the game, was Neff and B. Smith were both 1-3, and Kelly Leos was 1-2 with a sacrifice.

USU and the Hornets play the third game of the conference series Sunday at 1 p.m. mountain time. The Aggies return home Tuesday, April 16, in a single game against Utah.
