LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State's softball team lost to #18 Pacific 4-2 Friday. The game was the first of a three-game series against the Tigers. The loss drops the Aggies to 3-30 on the season while Pacific improved to 26-12. USU has yet to win a Big West Conference game.
Pacific scored first in the second inning, as Estee Okumura came home on an error by center fielder Casey Smith. Two more Tigers crossed home plate in the third as pitcher Cindy Ball tripled to score Barbara Moody. Ball later scored a run on an error by shortstop Heather Curtis.
Utah State scored both of its runs in the fourth inning as Curtis doubled to left center to bring home Marcie Neff. Curtis then scored the second run of the inning on a Breanne Smith single.
Ball homered in the seventh inning to give Pacific its final run of the game.
USU pitcher Lindsay Janssen (1-13) worked a complete game and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits and four walks, while striking out five. Neff was 1-3 on the day, while Curtis posted her fourth double of the year, going 1-3. Right fielder Marnie Andrews was 1-2 in the game with a single.
The second game of the day's scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the top of the seventh due to darkness, with the Tigers leading the Aggies 7-1. The game will resume Saturday at 11 a.m. prior to the start of the third and final game of the series, which is slated to begin at noon at LeGrand and LaRee Johnson Field.
