LOGAN, Utah - Megan Mills recorded five saves and tallied her 10th shutout of the season as Utah State soccer tied UC Riverside 0-0 in double overtime Sunday. The 0-0 tie was the second of the year for the Aggies, and the first time in USU history the Aggies have had two matches in a season end tied at zero.
"It's tough to tie when we were so close," said head coach Heather Cairns. "Our defense once again deserves credit for playing an outstanding match."
USU's best scoring chances came off shots from Amber Tracy and Charlsie Harris. Each had shots that went just wide of the goal. Riverside's best scoring opportunity came in the first half when Vanessa Chanez headed a cross that bounced off the crossbar.
Heading into Sunday's match USU was one point ahead of UCR for second place in the Big West standings. With the tie, the Aggies will stay one point ahead of the Highlanders in the standings and have to wait to see how Cal Poly does to see if they either remain in second place, or are tied for first if Cal Poly losses. The Mustangs play Pacific later Sunday.
Up next for the Aggies is Cal Poly. The Mustangs host the Aggies on Friday at 6 p.m.
