LONG BEACH, Calif. - Utah State's women's volleyball team lost a four-game match (27-30, 30-23, 26-30, 20-30) at Long Beach State Saturday night to fall to 14-9 on the season and 6-6 in the Big West Conference. The 49ers improved to 14-6 overall and 9-4 in league play with the win.
Despite hitting .255 in the opening game, USU lost by three points as Long Beach State hit .320. USU rebounded in game two to notch the seven-point win as they hit .219 and held the 49ers to a negative .125 hitting percentage. Long Beach State regrouped in the third game and recorded a hard-fought 30-26 win as they hit .243, while USU hit .205. In the fourth and final game, the Aggies hit just .095, while LBSU hit a blistering .356 to get the win.
Senior middle blocker Erin Cartwright-Davis (Hyrum, Utah) led Utah State with 19 kills, eight digs and six blocks as she hit .395 in the match, while freshman outside hitter Beth Hodge (Broken Arrow, Okla.) added 12 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Ingrid Roth (Barrington, Ill.) had 10 kills and eight blocks in the match, and freshman opposite side hitter Mari Ruddick (Canyon Country, Calif.) posted 10 kills to go along with six digs and six blocks.
As a team, Utah State hit .196 in the match, while Long Beach State hit .209. The 49ers recorded six more kills (68-62) and five more digs (62-57) in the match, while the Aggies had three more team blocks (16-13).
Utah State will return home next weekend against Cal Poly on Thur., Nov. 6 and UC Santa Barbara on Sat., Nov. 8 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
