Volleyball Drops Five-Game Match At UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Utah State's women's volleyball team dropped a five-game match at UC Riverside tonight by final scores of 33-35, 30-18, 28-30, 30-19, 12-15. With the loss, USU falls to 15-11 on the season and 7-8 in the Big West Conference, while UCR improves to 9-17 overall and 4-11 in league play with the win.

UC Riverside out-lasted Utah State in the opening game as the Highlanders hit .255 as compared to just .157 for USU. In game two, Utah State rebounded to hit .476 and win the game by 12 points. In the third game, the Aggies offense went cold as they hit just .140, while the Highlanders hit .308 to notch the two-point win. USU responded with an 11-point win in game four as they hit .368 and held UC Riverside to a .000 hitting percentage. In the fifth and final game, Utah State hit .000, while UCR hit .353 to record the win.

Individually for Utah State, senior middle blocker Erin Cartwright-Davis (Hyrum, Utah) led the Aggies with 25 kills to go along with 12 digs and four blocks, while freshman outside hitter Beth Hodge (Broken Arrow, Okla.) added 22 kills. Sophomore opposite side hitter Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) also recorded double-digits in kills with 19, while sophomore middle blocker Ingrid Roth (Barrington, Ill.) added 13 kills and six blocks. Senior libero Taubi Neves (Otto, Wyo.) led USU on defense with a team-high 16 digs.

As a team, Utah State hit .245 in the match, while UC Riverside hit .220. USU also recorded 26 more kills (88-62), six more digs (67-61), three more service aces (7-4) and one more team block (12-11), but also had 13 more hitting errors (39-26) in the match.

Utah State will return to action on Sat., Nov. 15 against Cal State Fullerton in its final road match in league play.
