Final Stats

LOGAN, Utah (AP) - - Spencer Nelson was just one of five players who reached double-digits in scoring in Friday night's season opener as the Utah State Aggies beat the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, 86-54.

Utah State dominated the matchup from the beginning when they started on a 13-0 run. Nelson contributed four points during that run, while Cardell Butler chipped in seven. Utah State would go on a similar offensive run in the second half as they held Fort Lewis scoreless for over six-and-a-half minutes while going on a 14-0 run.

Nelson led Utah State scorers with 16. Four other Aggies also notched double digits: Butler (12), Quenton Harvey (11), John Neil (11) and Nate Harris (10). Fort Lewis had two scorers hit double digits as Derek Yutzy led the Skyhawks with 12 and Ryan Sonnek had 10.

Despite never closing the scoring gap, the Skyhawks managed to shoot well from beyond the arc, hitting 8-of-19 3-pointers.

Utah State dominated the game throughout and shot 79 percent from the field in the first half while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to take a 55-28 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Aggies would finish the night going 15-of-16 from the free-throw line, and out-rebounded the Skyhawks by a 46-23 margin.

Utah State has not lost a home opener in 10 years when it fell to Weber State, 87-86.

Utah State travels to Weber State on Nov. 25, while Fort Lewis heads to the Grand Canyon tournament in Phoenix on Nov. 28.
