POCATELLO, Idaho - Senior forward Cardell Butler scored a career-high 27 points to lead Utah State to a 73-62 victory against Idaho State Saturday night at Reed Gym in Pocatello, Idaho.
Mike Ahmad added a career-high 14 points, while Mark Brown scored 10 points for the Aggies who improved to 4-1 on the season and won its eighth straight game against the Bengals.
Utah State ended the first half with a 10-2 run to take a 32-28 lead into the locker room and opened the second half with a 16-6 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 50-34 with 15:05 remaining.
Idaho State cut USU's lead to five behind three straight three pointers from Jeff Gardner, but could get no closer. The Aggies ended the contest by going 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the game.
Marquis Poole paced Idaho State with 16 points and a game-high seven assists, while Scott Henry added 12 points for the Bengals, who fell to 3-5 on the season.
Utah State shot 46.4 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line going 15-of-18. Idaho State finished the game with a 41.4 percent shooting percentage, but shot just 10 free throws, converting seven. USU also out-rebounded ISU 40-26.
Utah State returns to action on Thur., Dec. 18 when they host Jackson State University at 7:05 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
