RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Nate Carter had 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting as UC Riverside upset Utah State 72-65 Saturday night.
It was the first-ever win in six tries for the Highlanders (6-14, 5-9 Big West Conference) over the Aggies (19-7, 10-5), and put Utah State one game behind UC Irvine and half a game behind UC Santa Barbara for first place in the Big West.
The Highlanders used a 7-0 run with 9:43 left in the game to take a 53-43 lead.
Riverside extended the lead to 11 points after a Carter 3-pointer.
Utah State pulled within five with 1:12 left after a jumper from Mark Brown, but a lay-up from Ted Bell after a Brown turnover sealed the win for the Highlanders.
Bell finished with 13 points.
Desmond Penigar led Utah State with 17 points and seven rebounds.
