FULLERTON, Calif. - Utah State softball was shut out in two games (3-0,4-0) at eighth ranked Cal State Fullerton here Saturday. The Aggies are now 5-19 on the season and 0-2 in Big West play. CS Fullerton improved to 21-12 this season and 2-0 in the Big West.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Aggies mustered a strong defense, keeping the Titans scoreless through five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, the Titans rallied, scoring three runs before the Aggies went three-and-out in the top of the seventh. USU was hitless in the game.
The Aggies improved at the plate in the second game,but were unable to score. CS Fullerton scored all four runs in the third inning. Leslie Higley relieved Carli Baumgartner in the third inning, and allowed no runs and four hits in the remaining three innings. The Aggies turned two double plays in the game. Stephanie Vasarhely was 2-3 in the game, with a double. Kelly Leos also doubled, going 1-3.
The Aggies play the Titans in the final game of the weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m.
