LOGAN, Utah - Jason Trask won his fifth straight match enroute to leading Utah State men's tennis to a 7-0 sweep of Portland State on Saturday, April 12. Utah State improved their record to 7-11 as Portland State dropped to 3-17.
In singles play, Trask moved up to the number one spot for an injured Hannes Schenk. He seemed to have little trouble with the transition as he downed the Vikings' Beau Smith, 6-1, 6-4. At the number two spot, Brandon Butler captured his eighth win of the spring season by downing PSU's Chuck Haselwood, 7-6, 6-2. Other Aggies to record wins were Jordan Butler, Andrew Marsh, Ryan Bair, and Jacob Jensen.
In doubles action, the Aggies played well as they won all three matches. J. Butler and Nelson, playing in the number one spot, helped the Aggies get an early edge as they defeated the tandem of Haselwood/Smith, 8-6. The Aggies clinched the doubles point as B. Butler and Trask won their third straight doubles match by defeating Simpson/Gillam, 8-4. At number three doubles, the Aggie duo of Marsh and Bair sealed the sweep as they defeated Eiford/Shelton, 8-3.
The Aggies' next match is at home against Idaho State on Wednesday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
