LOGAN, Utah - Lacy Gustaveson scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute of play as Utah State women's soccer (2-1-0) defeated Weber State (0-2-1) 2-1 Thursday. The win extends Utah State's unbeaten streak against Weber to three games.
"Our front three really played well," said head coach Heather Cairns. "They kept us in the game and once again we were able to get a late goal when we needed it."
Amber Tracy broke the scoreless tie in the 16th minute of play with her team-leading second goal of the year. Utah State didn't stay on top for long however, Weber State's Kacey McDonald scored on a penalty kick less than three minutes later to tie the game at one. Gustaveson then put the Aggies ahead for good as she took a pass from Chanel Blaquiere and beat Wildcat goalie Kandice Golar at the 78:20 mark.
Thursday's match marked the first time Gustaveson has scored in an Aggie uniform since transferring from Dixie State last year. It also marked the first time Chanel Blaquiere has started this year for the Aggies, she assisted Gustaveson on the game-winning goal.
The Aggies next face Idaho State in their home opener on Sunday. The match begins at 1 p.m.
