LOGAN, Utah - Zuzana Cernianska recorded a match-high 19 kills, while Amanda Fahnestock added 14 kills and a team-high 14 digs to lead Utah State's women's volleyball team to a four-game win against Idaho Thursday night by final scores of 30-24, 18-30, 30-20, and 30-23. With the win, USU improves to 7-11 on the season and 3-7 in the Big West Conference, while the Vandals fall to 13-6 overall and 6-4 in league play.
After starting the season with a 1-7 record, Utah State has bounced back to win six of its last 10 matches, including four of its last five. USU also improved to 12-10 all-time against Idaho, winning each of the last six matches at home against UI and six of the last eight overall in the series.
Fahnestock, a freshman from Eagle, Idaho had her best match as an Aggie with season-highs in both kills (14) and digs (14), as she hit .458 in the match (14-3-24). Cernianska hit .375 (19-4-40) for USU to go along with seven digs and a team-high four blocks, while Ingrid Roth added eight kills and three blocks.
Sarah Meek led Idaho with 15 kills, while Kati Tikker had 14 kills and Amanda Bowman had 10.
As a team, Utah State hit .258 in the match and held Idaho to a .172 hitting percentage. USU recorded nine more kills (66-57), three more service aces (5-2) and two more team blocks (8-6) in the match, while committing seven fewer hitting errors (24-31).
Utah State returns to action on Thur., Oct. 28 against UC Irvine at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
