Women's Basketball Loses 75-54 To Bowling Green

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah State scored the first basket of the game, but never led again as Bowling Green handed the Aggies their worst loss of the season, a 75-54 drubbing in the consolation game of the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout here Saturday night.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 3-4 on the season, while Bowling Green improved to 4-4 and took third place at the four-team tournament.

Brittany Tressler was the only Aggie to score in double-figures as she chipped-in 12 points to go along with four steals. It is the sixth straight game she has reached double-digits. The Aggies also got nine each from Ali Aird and Taylor Richards. Richards also dished-out a team-high four assists.

USU came out sluggish in the first half as it scored just 15 points on 22.2-percent from the floor and went into the locker room down by 24. Contributing to the Aggie deficit was a 33-15 advantage by Bowling Green on the glass. USU,s 15 first half points tied the lowest output in an opening period under coach Pebley. Tressler led the Aggies in the opening 20 minutes with four points.

The Aggies out-scored the Falcons in the second half, 39-36, and raised their shooting percentage to 29-percent for the game, but the hole was to deep for USU to crawl out of it is now in the midst of its first two-game skid this year.

Bowling Green was led by Liz Honegger and Ali Mann who each tallied a double-double. Honegger had 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Mann chipped in 16 and 11. Whitney Taylor also reached double-digits with 10 points.

Jenny Gross, who saw her first action of the year in Friday,s game, scored her first four points as an Aggie in nine minutes off the bench. USU,s leading shot blocker, Jessica Freeman, swatted a game-high four shots and moved into fifth-place on the Aggie career blocked-shot list (48).

Utah State now returns to Logan and will face Idaho State on Mon., Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. The game will be USU,s first at home since Nov. 19.
