POCATELLO, Idaho - Jason Trask improved to 4-1 in singles and USU picked-up two other singles matches, but it wasn't enough as Idaho State nipped Utah State men's tennis, 4-3 Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Aggies fall to 1-4 on the season while ISU improves to 3-1.
"Dropping the doubles point really hurt us tonight," said head coach Christian Wright. "We played well in singles and if a few of the points would have gone our way we could have pulled it out. We had some really hard fought matches today."
For the fourth-straight match, USU fell behind early by dropping all three doubles matches. The Aggies' closest matches in doubles would come at the number three spot. Trask and Roshan Rasekhi took the Bengal duo of Pablo Garces and Ryo Sakamoto the distance before falling 9-8. Hannes Schenk and Hungsoon Park also had a hard-fought match with Hestian Stoica and Ivan Moferdin before falling 8-6.
In singles, Trask won his third-straight by defeating the Bengals' Moferdin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Park also notched a singles win at the number one spot. He defeated Stoica in a three-set match, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6. USU's final point of the afternoon came at number five singles. Jonah Nelson defeated Jemre Okoh in a match that was decided by a super tie-breaker, 7-5, 6-7, (10-8)
The Aggies return to Logan for the first time since Jan. 16 as they face Nevada on Feb. 7. The match begins at 11 a.m. All Utah State tennis matches are played at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club located at 1655 North 200 East in Logan.
