Final Stats
RENO, Nev. - Utah State's softball team lost two games at the second day of the Nevada Tournament on Saturday.The Aggies fell to St. Mary's 7-5 and Nevada 4-3 to fall to 1-11 on the season.
In the morning game against St. Mary's, St. Mary's got on the board first as Jenn Arnold doubled in the top of the first inning to score Claudia Williams who reached base on a walk.
The Aggies then failed to score in the bottom of the first and held St. Mary's scoreless in the top of the second, before tallying three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Amanda Carlson drove in two runs with a single, while Lauren Guzman singled in the other Aggie run.
USU would then get an additional two runs in the bottom of the third inning as Kelly Leos scored from third on a throwing error by the third baseman and Casey Smith scored on a sacrifice fly.
St. Mary's would then go to bat in the top of the seventh inning down 5-3, before exploding for four runs in the inning and eventually winning the game 7-5.
Later in the day, USU used a two run second inning to take a 2-0 lead on Nevada. Once again, Carlson got things going for the Aggies as she doubled in two runs for her third and fourth RBIs of the day.
The Aggies would get one more run in the top of the fifth on a single by Leos that drove in Haven Vance. Nevada then scored the final four runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to edge the Aggies 4-3.
In a late game Friday night, Nevada defeated the Aggies 9-1 in a game which ended after the fifth inning.
USU plays the same two teams tomorrow.
