Final Stats

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Haven Vance went 4-for-6 with two RBIs as Utah State dropped its doubleheader with Southern Utah here Tuesday. The Aggies narrowly lost the opening game 3-2, then dropped the second game, 11-6, as they fell to 2-14 on the season.

In the first game, USU scored first in the top of the second inning as Jessica Garnett walked and then advanced to second as Candice Hatch grounded out to second for the second out of the inning. Garnett eventually scored as Southern Utah's right-fielder couldn't handle a pop-fly by Michelle Vlahos.

Southern Utah then scored the games next two runs in the bottom of the second and third innings. Down 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning, the Aggies' Haven Vance recorded her third hit of the game to drive in Hatch who had reached base on a single and advanced to second on a stolen base.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh inning as SUU's Anna Leeman started the inning by hitting a double to left center field. Leeman advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dusti Winward and crossed the plate as Lacee Leprey slapped the game-winning single.

Winward started things off for the 'Birds in game two hitting a home run in the first inning. Mandy Brown also sent one out of the park for the 'Birds in the first inning giving them an early 3-0 lead. Utah State scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead, 6-4, but couldn't hold on as SUU exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cruise to an 11-6 victory.

The Aggies travel to Sacramento State this weekend where they play in the Capital Classic Tournament. USU plays two games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
