Final Stats

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jessica Garnett led the Aggies with three hits on the day as Utah State's softball team was shutout in its doubleheader with 16th-ranked Oregon State here Sunday. The Aggies dropped the first game 9-0 and the second game 7-0.

With the losses, Utah State fell to 4-21 on the season, while Oregon State improved its record to 30-9.

The Beavers dominated the first game, using a six-run second inning to put the contest out of reach. OSU's freshman hurler Brianne McGowan helped her own cause when she led-off the second inning with her fourth home run of the season in a lined shot over the center field fence. The Beavers pounded five hits in the frame while batting around the order. Lisa Allen added a double and Vanessa Iapala had a two-RBI single to left field as eight different Beaver batters reached base.

The Aggies broke up McGowan's perfect game when Haven Vance singled to left field in the top of the fourth. Vance then stole second base and advanced to third on USU's only other hit of the game, a single by Jessica Garnett. USU's only real scoring threat then went by the wayside as Kelly Leos popped up to first base to end the inning.

OSU's Kelly Peterson capped the scoring for the Beavers in the first game as she hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving OSU a 9-0 advantage.

In the second game, Oregon State picked up where it left off. Iapala gave the Beavers an early lead when she belted a three-run home run over the left field fence in the first inning. OSU added four more runs in the fifth inning to cruise to the 7-0 victory.

The Aggies tallied five hits in the second game led by two from Garnett. Other Aggies to record hits included Quela Henderson, Candice Hatch and Roxanne Ritchie. USU's only scoring threats came in the second and seventh innings as the Aggies placed runners in scoring position, but were unable to push them across.

The Aggies now travel to Salt lake City to meet Utah on Tuesday. The game begins at 3 p.m.
