BOISE, Idaho - Charity Weston and Lacy (Gustaveson) Kennington each had three shots on goal, but none of their shots found the back of the net as Utah State women's soccer opened its 2004 schedule losing to Boise State 1-0 on Friday. Friday's loss was USU's first to BSU in five contests. "We played o.k. today but we have to get better," said head coach Heather Cairns. "Once again we weren't able to get it done in the attacking third." The Aggies out shot the Broncos 5-3 in the opening half as both teams failed to score in the first 45 minutes of play. Boise State then came out in the second half as the aggressor, recording eight shots to USU's five. The difference in the game came on a corner kick by Boise State's Molly McDonald in the 83rd minute. McDonald placed the ball right in front of the Aggie net, where Lisa Balsama headed the ball past Megan Mills for the game-winning goal. "We need to be able to play at a higher tempo for a longer period of time," added Cairns. "We played pretty even with Boise State all day and had some good ideas in our attack, but we weren't able to finish our shots." Megan Mills played the entire match for Utah State in goal, recording four saves. Kim Parker picked up the shutout for the Broncos, notching six saves. While all six Utah State shots on goal came off the feet of Weston and Kennington, freshman Katie Keller and junior Charlsie Harris recorded one shot, while Nicole (Feuz) Gooch tallied two shots. The Aggies are now 2-7 in season openers, including an 1-4 record in season opening road games. Up next for Utah State is its home opener against Weber State on Mon., Aug. 30, at 5 p.m. (MST)
