Final Stats

PROVO, Utah - Playing its third match in five days, Utah State soccer was unable to get on the board against Brigham Young, falling to the Cougars 2-0 here Tuesday night. The Aggies have now scored just one goal in their four road games this season. The loss drops the Aggies to 1-4 on the season, while BYU improves to 2-4. "In spite of the loss we saw some really good things tonight" said head coach Heather Cairns. "We were able to push the ball better tonight than we did over the weekend and our defense really did a great job." BYU scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early on in the match as Amberlee Anderson crossed the ball on a header that found Jamie Rendich, who also headed the ball past Megan Mills for the goal at 2:51. The Cougars scored their next goal off a corner kick by Bobbi Tillotson. Tillotson put the ball into play from the corner and found the head of teammate Claire Thomas, who placed the ball to Krissa Reinbold for the final game of the match at 26:55. Utah State outshot the Cougars 5-3 in the opening period, but were unable to put a shot on goal as BYU's keeper, Erika Woodbury, was without a save in the opening 45 minutes. BYU outshot the Aggies 11-2 in the second period, but the USU defense stayed steadfast and didn't allow a goal." "We came out with a lot of intensity in the second half, but we started to panic a little when we realized we were down by two goals," said Cairns. Lacy (Gustaveson) Kennington recorded two shots on goal to lead the Aggies in that category, while Tiffany Jones contributed one. Mills worked the entire 90 minutes for the Aggies in goal, recording four saves and giving up both goals. Woodbury kept the BYU goal for the matches entirety and finished with three saves. The Aggies play their first home match in nearly two weeks as they host Utah Valley State, Saturday at 1 p.m. All Utah State home matches are played at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field.
