Final Stats

OGDEN, Utah - Utah State soccer received a cold welcome to October as it was shutout by Weber State, 1-0, here on Saturday. The loss marked just the second time in 11 matches the Wildcats have shutout the Aggies. Weber blanked USU, 4-0, in 1997.

The loss also snapped a four-match unbeaten streak against Weber State dating to the 2000. It also dropped the Aggies to 2-6-3 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 6-3-1.

"We weren't very good today," said head coach Heather Cairns. "We have had some bad moments this year, but we have always been able to gather ourselves. [Saturday] we were unable to put anything together."

In just her second career start, Aggie goalie Lisa Willardson worked the entire match, recording five saves and allowing the deciding goal. Her record fell to 0-2-1, while her goals-against average improved to 1.41.

Weber State's Haley McCoy scored the game-winning goal at 61:31 and the Aggies were unable to respond as they were shutout for the fourth time this year. Both Shaylee Stegen and Veronica Walker were credited with assist on the play.

Utah State was out-shot 10-2 in the opening half, but rebounded with a 13-6 advantage in the second half. Unfortunately for the Aggies many of their looks came off direct kicks.

"We didn't create enough for ourselves," Cairns said. "Most of our shots came off of directs kicks and not in the flow of the match. We also didn't do a good job of responding after they scored. It took us awhile to find our rhythm."

Dana Peart led the Aggies with five shots, while Chanel Weddle recorded three and Abby Hunt, Liz Masson and Charity Weston each booted two.

Utah State plays one more in-state match on the road next week as it travels to Utah Valley State on Oct. 5. The Aggies then open Western Athletic Conference play at home against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 9.
