College Station, Texas - Utah State's softball team split the first two games of the Aggie Classic hosted by Texas A&M on Friday. The Aggies defeated Northwestern 3-2 and fell to Texas A&M 15-1 to fall to 3-5 on the season.

In the first game against Northwestern, Jessica Garnett made her presence known by hitting a perfect 3-3 at the plate and recording three RBI. She began in the first inning, knocking a single down the middle that allowed Roxanne Ritchie to reach home and send the Aggies up 1-0. The Aggies were also helped by Quela Henderson-Leonhardt's phenomenal hitting as she went 3-3 at the plate as well. The game was even heading into the seventh when Ritchie, on third with the help of an error and a sacrifice fly, was brought home once again by the bat of Garnett. The Aggies finished with nine hits in the game.

Leslie Higley, who recorded the win for USU, pitched two innings, giving up only two hits and one earned run. Heather Straight started the game for the Aggies, pitching almost five innings and recorded only one earned run as well. USU was helped by one error by the Daemons on the day.

In the second game, USU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first after Garnett smashed a double into the outfield and allowed Quela Henderson-Leonhardt to reach home. Jessica Garnett went 2-1 at the plate recording the Aggies only hit of the game. 23rd ranked Texas A&M was not fazed by the early blow and decimated USU's defense with five runs in the second, third, and fourth. The game was ended after the fifth inning. Texas A&M recorded 16 hits to the Aggies one.

Leslie Higley fell to 2-2 after the loss, pitching two innings and allowing eleven hits and six earned runs. Garnett and Heather Straight both pitched one inning and allowed five hits and two earned runs between them. The Aggies will play Northwestern and Texas A&M once again tomorrow before closing the tournament with a game against Mississippi on Sunday.
