Final Stats

PROVO, Utah - Utah State's softball team lost both games of its doubleheader with BYU at Gail Miller Field here Tuesday evening. The Aggies dropped the first game 9-1 in five innings, then fell 11-2 in the second game, which was called after six innings.

In the first game Utah State was able to end its five game scoring drought when Quela Leonhardt singled to left field and drove Sara Fleming home. Leonhardt's RBI brought the Aggies within one run of tying the game (2-1) until the Cougars exploded in the fifth inning putting the game away with seven runs on six hits. Leonhardt went 1-2 at the plate and drove in the Aggies' only run. The Aggies finished with two hits in the game.

The second game looked to be different when Utah State scored early in the first inning. Amy Schaible, who has been one of the most consistent hitters over the past several games, singled into right field and allowed Sara Fleming to make it home safe. However, BYU came back in the second inning with three runs to take the lead. Leonhardt smashed a double during the third that allowed Fleming to score again, but the Aggies were unable to take the lead again as BYU scored five runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth to put the game away early. USU's Leslie Higley had a tough game pitching, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in 3.1 innings.

Five Aggies, Leonhardt, Fleming, Schiable, Roxanne Ritchie, and Kelly Leos, recorded hits over the course of the two games. Leonhardt was the only Aggies to hit in both games. The two losses drop Utah State to 7-21 on the season.

The Aggies will play again when they meet Northern Colorado on Thursday at home.
