Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Amy Schaible went 2-2 with an RBI but it was not enough as the Aggies lost 2-1 to San Diego here on Friday night. The Aggies drop to 2-10 overall with the loss, while the Toreros improve to 7-3 with the win.

The Aggies started the game by loading the bases in the top of the first inning with one out, but were unable to capitalize as Sara Fleming struck out and Jamie Fife popped out to end the inning. San Diego got off to a hot start as the Toreros scored two runs in the first thanks to a two-out triple by Gina McFarland. Utah State's Heather Straight would settle down after allowing the two early runs as she set San Diego down in order the next two innings and allowed just two hits the rest of the game.

The Aggies would threaten again in the third as Schaible led-off the inning with a triple, but she was unable to score as Erin Harmonson set the next three Utah State batters down in order. The Aggies lone run came in the fifth as Jeanine Hernandez led-off the inning with a single and was brought home by Schaible's double, cutting the lead to 2-1. Utah State's rally fizzled as the next three batters struck out, leaving Schaible stranded at second.

Hernandez would give the Aggies one last gasp as she started the seventh with a single, but Utah State was unable to come up with the big hit as it left two runners on base to end the game. In all, the Aggies left nine runners on base, and stranded at least one runner in six of the seven innings.

Straight took the loss (2-2) as she pitched the full six innings, allowing only four hits and two earned runs, while striking out six. Harmonson improved to 4-2 with the win as she went six innings and struck out eight, allowing just one earned run.

The Aggies will look to avenge Friday's loss as they return to action Saturday mourning at the San Diego Invitational with back-to-back games against San Diego at 1 p.m., and against UC Riverside at 3:30 pm. Utah State will close the tournament on Sunday with a rematch against UC Riverside, followed by a game against WAC foe Nevada.
