Utah State's men's tennis team swept the Idaho Vandals here on Sunday. The Aggies are now hold a 3-4 record.
In doubles action the Aggies took the No. 1 spot with Johannes Zelle and Joao Pinho defeating Timothy Huynh and Uriah Jones 8-4. The Vandals bounced back winning the No. 2 spot with John Hieb and Anthony Karlovic defeating Dantley Young and Jonas Tyden 8-4. In the No. 3 spot the Aggies defeated the Vandals 8-3 with Bryan Marchant and Lukas Bouton defeating Joel Trudel and Ned Hayley 8-3.
In singles action the Aggies won five of their six matches. Sophomore Johannes Zelle took the No. 1 spot against the Vandals winning Timothy Huynh 6-3, 6-4. In a tie-breaker and the No. 2 spot Joao Pinho defeated Anthony Karlovic 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. The Vandals only win in the singles matches was at the No. 3 spot with John Hieb defeating JJ Netto 6-3, 6-4.
At the No. 5 spot in singles freshman Bryan Marchant only allowed one point defeating Joel Trudel 6-0, 6-1.
"Our team played hard and focused hard," said head coach Christian Wright. "We played steady tennis and got another win."
The Aggies will play on Feb. 8 in Logan against Weber State. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
