LOGAN, Utah - - Heather Straight pitched a complete game six-hitter and allowed only two earned runs, but San Jose State scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Aggies 2-1 here on Friday. The loss is Utah State's 11th in a row as the Aggies fell to 5-33 overall and 0-9 in the WAC. San Jose State has now won five games in a row and improved to 19-20 overall and 8-4 in the WAC.

Straight and Courtney Lewis dominated the first four innings as they combined to allow just three hits. The Aggies threatened to put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Whitnie Ray singled with one out, and Sara Fleming followed by barely missing a home run as she hit a shot of the left field fence. Ray was waived around third on the play, and was thrown out at the plate in a close call.

Aubrie Stroman would break the scoreless tie in the fifth when she delivered an RBI single, scoring Jeanine Hernandez who previously doubled. Utah State outhit the Spartans four to one in the first five innings, and took a 1-0 lead into the sixth.

San Jose State scored its first run in the sixth as the Spartans strung together three hits in the inning to tie the game. Lewis then put San Jose State on top for good in the seventh with a two-out RBI single.

The Aggies would threaten in the bottom of the seventh as Amy Schaible walked and Heather Haak added a two-out single. However, Lewis struck out the final batter to secure the 2-1 victory for the Spartans.

Lewis picked up her ninth win of the season as she pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits. Straight dropped to 5-11 overall with the loss.

Quela Leonhardt went 0-3 and failed to reach base in the game as her 19-game onbase streak came to an end. Leonhardt's streak ranged from March 17 against Miami (OH) to April 18 against Brigham Young.

Utah State will look to avenge Friday's loss to the Spartans when the Aggies take on San Jose State in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
