Final Stats
BOISE, Idaho - Utah State women's basketball team is not a fan of Boise State's Taco Bell Arena, as the Aggies were drubbed on BSU's court for the second year in a row, as USU was bucked by the Broncos, 80-38, Wednesday night in a Western Athletic Conference game.
Wednesday was the 13th meeting between the Aggies and Broncos, and Boise State leads the series, 11-2, winning the last eight in a row. Utah State's last win was on Dec. 14, 1978, a 100-71 Aggie triumph. At Boise, USU is now 1-6 last winning on Dec. 20, 1975. The last two meetings at Boise have not been pretty, as the Broncos won last year, 70-38.
The loss pushed USU to a slurpee-wielding convenience store record of 7-11 overall and the Aggies even their WAC mark at 3-3.
Boise State wins its seventh in a row and 11th of the last 12, as the Broncos improve to 15-4 overall and maintain their position atop the conference standings with a 6-0 league record.
Wednesday was USU's 100th game under head coach Raegan Pebley since reinstating the program for the 2003-04 season. When she took the court Wednesday, senior forward Brittany Hagen played in her 100th career game, currently fifth on USU's Career Games Played List, and the only Aggie to play in all 100 games. Fellow senior guard Camille Brox has seen action in 98 of the 100 games, while senior forward Brittany (Tressler) Phillips has played in 95 of the 100 games.
USU shot a paltry 12-53 (22.6 percent) from the field, including 4-22 (18.2 percent) behind the three-point arc. The Aggies were also 10-14 (71.4 percent) at the free throw line.
BSU shot 47.5 percent (29-61) field goal shooting, hitting 6-13 (46.2 percent) from three-point range and the Broncos were 16-23 (69.6 percent) at the charity stripe.
Utah State only had one player in double-figures, as sophomore guard Danyelle Snelgro netted 10 points to go with three assists.
Boise State was led by Rebecca Kepilno's 22 points off the bench, 15 more than her season-average and seven more than her previous career-high. Jessica Thompson, who entered the game leading the WAC in scoring in league-only games with an 18.8 ppg average, maintained that with 21 Wednesday, while Michelle Hessing tallied 10.
Junior forward Jenny Gross, who is from near-by Caldwell, Idaho, pulled down six rebounds, part of USU's 27 as a team, compared to BSU's 49.
Boise State jumped out to a 6-0 lead at Utah State committed three turnover in its first four possessions, and the Broncos bucked their lead up to 21-6 at the 8:00 mark after back-to-back three-pointers by Jackie Lee.
Utah State went into halftime trailing 36-9, the lowest points scored in a half and greatest halftime deficit, and the Aggies never closed the gap to less than 20 points from that point on.
The Aggies return home to host Hawai'i on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. (MT) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
