LOGAN, Utah - Utah State sophomore Sydne Porter nets the lone goal in the Aggies' 2-1 loss against Boise State in USU's WAC home-opener at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field Sunday afternoon. The Aggies fall to 5-9-0 overall and evens their conference mark to 1-1-0. The Broncos improve to 6-5-2 and went undefeated in the first weekend of conference action, going 2-0. The loss is the Aggies' first WAC loss since Oct. 21, 2005, as USU posted an 8-0-3 mark in the last 11 matches.

"I thought we played really well besides giving up goals and scoring goals," said Utah State head coach Heather Cairns. "We've got to be better on both ends of the ball and it comes down to mental toughness."

USU dominated the first half of action, outshooting the Broncos 8-3 but the score was left 0-0 going into halftime.

After a Boise State foul Porter scored on a free kick from 30 yards out to put the Aggies' up 1-0 in the 72nd minute of action.

BSU responded less than two minutes later, when Emma Boyack shot from six yards out as the ball bounced off a Utah State defender's head.

The Broncos Randi Baker netted the second goal from 20 yards out from the left corner in the 86th minute with an assist from Boyack.

"We had the one goal lead and we let it slip away. We really weren't mentally strong enough to want to finish out that game," Cairns said. "We scored and got comfortable, when we should have kept going at them and not let them get back into the game."

Utah State sophomore defender Lindsey Smart had a corner kick with 1.4 seconds left in the second half and connected with junior midfielder Lacey Christenson who headed the ball into the back of the net to tie the score at two-all. The official took the goal away after it was determined that time had expired to leave the score at 2-1 and give Boise State the win.

In a somewhat physical match Boise State committed nine fouls while Utah State tallied six and each team received two yellow cards.

USU outshot BSU 13-5, including 5-2 in shots on goal.
