FRESNO, Calif. - Utah State soccer fell to Fresno State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Fresno, Calif. The Aggies fall to 6-10 on the season and evens its conference record to 2-2. The Bulldogs improve to 8-6 on the season and 3-1 in the WAC.
Fresno State netted a goal in the 79th minute of the match as Stephanie Yoro scored on a free kick from 30 yards out, as USU outshot FSU 8-3 in the second half.
"It was a really even match and it came down to the set play, as both teams had chances in the running play," said Utah State head coach Heather Cairns. "I think we did some good things and it was just a hard fought battle that we came up a little short."
USU outshot FSU, 12-11, while the Bulldogs had a 6-3 shots on goal edge.
The Aggies junior goalkeeper Ali Griffin recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action, while the Bulldogs netminder Kaity Revel made three saves in the contest.
"This match could have gone either way and we played well enough to win the game," Cairns said. "I think we just need to continue on the path we're in and refocus for our three-match home stretch."
The Aggies have their longest home stretch of the season as they host three matches in a row to wrap up conference action. USU battles Hawai'i on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. and then faces San Jose State on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Noon. The final regular season matchup begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Louisiana Tech. All matches will be held at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field.
