PROVO, Utah - Utah State junior forward Candice Clark scored her first goal this season as the Aggies fell, 2-1, at No. 19 Brigham Young Thursday evening in Provo. USU falls to 4-7 with the loss, while BYU stays undefeated with a 9-0-2 mark.

"We had a couple big individual and everyone of the girls did something spectacular in the match," said Utah State head coach Heather Cairns. "It was a fantastic team effort."

Clark took an early shot in the fourth minute of action but it was saved by BYU's goalkeeper Erika Woodbury.

The Cougars got on board first when Amanda Draegar netted the first goal for BYU with an assist by Katie Larkin.

Three minutes later Clark tied the score at one-all after netting a goal in the eighth minute of action, getting assists from freshman midfielder Stefani Shiozaki and senior forward Dana Peart.

Junior Aggie netminder Ali Griffin made a huge save off an Andrea Willis penalty kick in the 31st minute to keep the score tied, while the Aggies had two shots denied in the last ten minutes of the first half.

After spending the majority of the second half going back and forth with possession of the ball, BYU's Larkin netted the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of action.

"It's definitely disappointing to lose a game in the 87th minute," added Cairns. "I thought the game was very back and fourth. I thought we played them really tough. We feel like we put together a really good effort today."

The Cougars had an 8-4 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the second half and 5-4 in shots on goal.

Griffin tallied three saves for the Aggies, while the Cougars' Woodbury also recorded three.

USU returns back home to wrap up its non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday, Oct. 6 to host another in-state foe in Utah at 1 p.m. at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field.

Admission to all home soccer matches is free.
