ST. GEORGE, Utah - Utah State softball split it two games Saturday for the second day in a row at the BYU/UVSC Red Desert Classic at Canyon Complex at St. George, Utah, beating Idaho State, 13-12, in eight innings before dropping the nightcap, 10-8, to Dixie State.

The split evens USU's record at 2-2 under first-year head coach Candi Letts.

The Aggies opened the day with a thrilling 13-12 eight-inning win over Idaho State, as USU rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third. Utah State belted five home runs in the game, including two by junior SS Tara Evans, part of her 4-4 effort with three RBI.

Senior OF Ashley Bellum was 3-5 with a HR and three runs batted in, while junior 3B Amy Schaible was 2-4 with a two-run HR in the top of the eighth to put USU ahead, 13-11. Idaho State plated a single-run in the bottom of the extra inning, but freshman right-hander Stacey Ellingsworth thrwarted ISU's rally with a line out with two Bengals on base to end the game.

Senior 1B Jamie Fife was 1-5 but belted a three-run round-tripper in the fifth, part of USU's five-run barrage.

In the second game of the day vs. Dixie State, USU was down 9-0 in the second inning before battling back to 10-8 and had two runners on with two outs in the seventh, a base hit away from tying the game.

Official stats are unavailable at this time, but Schaible had multiple hits for USU.

The Aggies return to action next weekend at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Classic at Las Vegas, Nev.
