LOGAN, Utah - Utah State junior defender Alyssa Lowry netted her first career goal in the Aggies' 1-0 win against Montana on Thursday afternoon at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field.

The Aggies improve to 4-6 overall on the season and are now 2-1 at home. Montana falls to 2-7 on the season with the loss.

"We changed up some of our corner kick plays because we felt that when Alyssa was on the far post she couldn't see the ball as well, so we put her on the near post to try and finish that play. What I loved about that goal is that we had two or three shots and we just kept milling around the ball and trying again."

After a scoreless first half and only eight shots total taken, Lowry, a native of Draper, Utah, deflected the ball of a Montana defender to score in the 59th minute of action.

"Lowry just swooped in and scored. It was pure tenacity. We were just putting that ball in the back of the net and not wasting that opportunity. We know what Lowry's capable of, she's crafty and tenacious," added Cairns.

Junior goalkeeper Ali Griffin recorded her third shutout on the season, making three saves. Montana's goalkeeper Grace Harries recorded eight saves but it wasn't enough to hold the Aggies' attack.

Utah State had a dominating 19-5 advantage in shots, including 14-2 in the second half. The Aggies also had a 9-3 shots on goal edge. A total of seven USU players took shots, led by senior forward Dana Peart's nine, while freshman forward Lauren Hansen had five.

In a somewhat physical match, Montana was whistled for 12 fouls and Utah State committed 10 fouls.

The Aggies have a six day break before battling against two in-state foes to wrap up the non-conference season. USU heads out on Thursday, Oct. 4 to face the Brigham Young Cougars at 7 p.m. in Provo. Utah State returns back home to host Utah on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.

Admission to all home soccer matches is free.
