LOGAN, Utah - Lindsey Yon recorded 20 kills to lead New Mexico State to a three-set win (25-19, 25-21, 25-22) against Utah State here Saturday night. NMSU improves to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference with the win, while USU falls to 5-11 on the season and 3-2 in league play with the loss.
Senior outside hitter Melissa Osterloh had 10 kills to lead Utah State, while senior setter/defensive specialist Heather Hillier had a team-high 10 digs.
New Mexico State never trailed in the opening set as it hit .353 (17-5-34) to record the six-point win. USU hit .135 (11-6-37) in the set as Osterloh had four kills.
Yon led New Mexico State with eight kills in the second set as the Southern Aggies hit .128 (12-7-39) and limited USU to a .000 (10-10-42) hitting percentage en route to the 25-21 win.
In the third and final set, Utah State held a 16-13 advantage before NMSU went on an 8-2 run to take control. NMSU hit .194 (16-9-36) in the final set as compared to a .129 (9-5-31) hitting percentage for USU.
Utah State finished the match with a .082 (30-21-110) hitting percentage, while New Mexico State hit .220 (45-21-109). NMSU also had nine more team blocks (12-3), 16 more digs (51-35) and one more service ace (4-3), while USU had four fewer service errors (7-3).
Utah State will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 9 when it play at Idaho at 8 p.m. (MT).
