Aggies Buck Boise State Saturday Night, 81-59

LOGAN, Utah - Junior reserve guard Brian Green led five Aggie players in double-figures with a career-high 14 points as Utah State coasted to an easy 81-59 Western Athletic Conference win against Boise State here inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Saturday night.

Utah State improves to 3-2 in WAC play and 13-6 overall with the win, while Boise State falls to 0-6 in the league play and 9-10 on the year with the loss. USU also improved to 16-0 all-time at home against the Broncos as it ran its January winning streak at home to 34 straight games.

Junior forward Tai Wesley had 13 points and seven rebounds for Utah State, while senior guard Jared Quayle flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in just 28 minutes of action. Junior guard Tyler Newbold scored 10 points to go along with five rebounds, while sophomore forward Brady Jardine also had 10 points and five boards.

Robert Arnold was the only Boise State player to score in double-figures as he finished the game with 12 points.

Utah State scored the first seven points of the game on a pair of layups from Wesley and junior guard Pooh Williams, with a three-pointer from Quayle in between before Boise State scored the next seven points to tie the game. USU then used a 13-2 run later in the half to take a 33-18 lead with 4:35 to play and went into the locker room up 17 at 42-25 following a layup from Jardine at the buzzer.

Green had 12 of his 14 points in the first 20 minutes as he was 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range, while Quayle had seven points, six assists and five rebounds in the first half. In the first half, USU shot 54.8 percent (17-31) and was 5-of-10 from three-point range.

Boise State made one final run at Utah State, scoring 11 of the first 13 points in the second half to get within eight at 44-36, and trailed by 11 at 49-38 with 13:12 to play before USU went on an 8-0 run to lead by 19. The Aggies went on another 8-0 run minutes later and took its biggest lead of the game at 79-49 with 2:14 remaining following a layup from freshman forward Tyrone White. The Broncos then finished the game on a 10-2 run to make the final margin 22.

Utah State finished the game by shooting 52.6 percent overall (30-57), including 38.9 percent from three-point range (7-18) and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (14-21). Boise State shot 40.8 percent from the field (20-49), was 4-of-13 (.308) from behind the arc and 15-of-25 (.600) at the charity stripe.

Utah State will head back out on the road next week for a pair of WAC games at Fresno State (10-9, 3-2) on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. (MT), and at Idaho (8-8, 1-4) on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. (MT).
