Utah State Softball Hosts Alumni Game Saturday

LOGAN, Utah - Head softball coach Carissa Millsap-Kalaba and the 2011 Utah State softball team are renewing the tradition of the alumni softball game. On Saturday, Oct. 23, the current Aggies will take on former players at Noon at LaRee and LeGrande Johnson Softball Field.

Utah State will conclude fall action on Monday, Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m. with an intrasquad scrimmage.

The alumni game is part of Utah State's Homecoming Activities. The Utah State football team will take on Hawai`i at 3 p.m.

Also among the highlighted activities is the unveiling of the larger-than-life-size bronze statue of Merlin Olsen ceremony, starting at Noon on the South Plaza of Romney Stadium.

The ceremony is open to the public and admission is free.

Pre-game activities for Aggies of all ages include the Pre-Game Tailgate Party, sponsored by the Young Alumni Association, held in the Southwest Parking Lot of Romney Stadium. Groups visiting the party include the Aggie Spirit Squad, Multicultural Alumni, Young Alumni and more. Food will be provided by Texas Roadhouse for $8 per person, while all other activities are free to fans.

The HURD's festivities will start with the Aggie Stampede through campus starting at 11:15 a.m. at the Living Learning Community (LLC). At 2 p.m., the HURD tailgate party will start at the Romney Stadium parking lot. New HURD members can also sign up at this time.

Other Homecoming activities on Saturday include the Aggie Pride 5K Fun Run at 8 a.m. at the HPER Building, the Homecoming Parade down Main Street at 10 a.m.

Homecoming action wraps up Saturday night with the Aggie volleyball team taking on New Mexico State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum at 8:30 p.m. Fans get free admission to the volleyball match with their ticket stub from the USU-Hawai'i football game.

Aggie softball has 10 returners from last season's squad, including junior Kelley Kaneshiro who is second all-time in home runs with 22. She is just two behind USU all-time career home run leader Sandy Taylor who has 24 (1997-00).
