USU Women Tangle With In-State Rival Weber State Saturday

LOGAN, Utah - TIP OFF - The Aggies (0-4) will take on the second of their three straight in-state rivals, facing Weber State (1-1) on Saturday, Nov. 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Dee Event Center in Ogden, Utah. Last time the Aggies went head-to-head with the Wildcats, USU won, 72-51, in Logan on Dec. 21, 2009. The last time USU traveled to WSU the Aggies were able to defeat the Wildcats, 44-41, on Dec. 22, 2008.

THE OPPONENT - Weber State leads the series against USU, 22-14. Weber State defeated the Aggies conference rival San Jose State, 52-50 on Nov. 12. The Wildcat's loss came against University of Utah, 56-52, on Nov. 16. Leading the way for the Wildcats sophomore forward Amanda Hughes scored a career-high 16 points against the Utes and nearly single-handedly helped Weber State rally against Utah. Hughes scored 14 of the final 18 points of the game, including the final 12 points of the night for the Wildcats. Weber State was scheduled to play Utah Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 23, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

UP NEXT - After Weber State, the Aggies will return home for another in-state rival game against Southern Utah. It will be the third in-state rival game in a row for the Aggies as they played BYU (Nov. 23) and will take on Weber State this Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT - Utah State women's basketball fell to Brigham Young University, 84-52, in Provo, Utah at the Marriott Center Tuesday, despite a team-high 12 points from sophomore center Banna Diop. This is the first game Diop did not win the tip-off for the initial possession, however she came back strong and scored USU's first four points. It is the second game in a row that Diop has led the Aggies in scoring as she tabbed a career-high 17 points against Montana on Nov. 20. Diop also added three rebounds and an assist against the Cougars. She shot an impressive 6-of-7 from the field and was the only Aggie in double figures.

AROUND THE COURT SLICK HANDS - The Aggies are third in the WAC in steals averaging 10.50 per game.

60/40 - The five regular Aggie starters (White, Coddington, Brown, Diop, Johnson) account for exactly 60% of the teams total minutes (484 minutes) and total points (148 pts.) while the bench currently picks up the remaining 40% in each category.

BROWN ON THE HARDWOOD - Redshirt junior Ashlee Brown made her first career start Nov. 20, against Montana, as she recovered from an illness that kept her from starting in the Aggies' first two games. She nabbed 16 points and dished out a career-high six assists against Montana.

• After coming off the bench for the first two games, redshirt junior forward Ashlee Brown made her first career start against Montana on Nov. 20.

• While Ashlee Brown was sick, senior forward Stacey Howard made her first career start against Dixie State and also started against North Dakota State.

• Sophomore center Banna Diop has started the season strong by scoring in double figures three times, including a career high and team-leading 17 points against Montana. Diop is second on the team with 11.3 ppg and second on the team rebounds with 5.5 per game.

• The Aggies have five newcomers this season, including three freshmen and two transfers.

• The Aggies are an international team with players from three different countries, including Australia (Stacey Howard, Alice Coddington and Maddy Plunkett), Senegal (Banna Diop) and 11 players from United States, none of whom are from the state of Utah.

COACH PEBLEY - Head coach Raegan Pebley is entering her eighth season as head coach at Utah State, which is the longest tenure in the program's history. Five games into 2007-08 season, Pebley overtook the lead for the most games coached in Utah State history (116). She has now coached 205 games for the blue and white. Pebley now has 71 wins as Aggie head coach which places above Cindy Perkins (51) on the all-time win list.

NEWCOMERS - The Aggies add five newcomers this year from all around the country. Junior transfrer Reyneisha Mays joins the squad from Moorpark College (Granada Hills, Calif.) Junior Maddy Plunkett is a transfer from College of Southern Idaho, following in the footsteps as team mate senior LaCale Pringle-Buchanan. The three freshman joing the Aggies this year include Kamie Imai ( Waiakea HS) comes to USU from Pahoa, Hawaii. Jennifer Schlott from Mesa, Ariz . (Mountain View HS) and Stephanie Larson from Tustin, Calif. (Foothill HS).
