LOGAN, Utah - Former Utah State basketball player Delbert Bingham passed away this week at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden at the age of 95.

Bingham (No. 3 in the accompanying photo) was a two-year letterwinner (1939-40) at Utah State and a member of the 1939 Aggie team that advanced to the first-ever NCAA Tournament along with Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Villanova, Brown, Wake Forest and Ohio State. USU, which finished the season with an 18-6 record, lost to Oklahoma (50-39) and defeated Texas (51-49) that year in postseason play. Those 18 wins were a school-record that stood until the 1958-59 team won 19 games.

Along with Bingham, other members of the 1939 Utah State NCAA Tournament team included Lloyd Jacobsen, Stan Cook, Calvin Agricola, Ray Lindquist, Leonard James, John Broberg, Roland Reading, Austin Hughes, Bill Evans, Harold Simpson, Ed Izatt, Floyd Morris, Clyde Morris, Charlie Clark, Howard Stone, Max Wilkins and Earl Winger, along with head coach E. Lowell Romney, assistant coach Ken Vanderhoff and manager Charles Jenkins.

Bingham graduated from Utah State University with a degree in physical education.
