Utah State men's tennis defeated in state rival Weber State, 4-3, Wednesday at the Sports Academy and Racqet Club in Logan. USU took the doubles point after winning two matches and then battled down to the last match for three of the singles points. This is the first win for the Aggies this season and brings their overall record to 1-4.

The match began with doubles play, where Utah State senior Sven Poslusny and sophomore partner Marcus Fritz took down Weber State's tandem of Todd Fought and Sanjay Gaswami at the first position, 8-6. At the second position, Aggie sophomre Sean Lovesque and junior Fredrik Peterson fell to WSU's Oliver Good and Caio Poitena, 8-7. At the third position, USU's team of sophomore Matt Sweet and junior Andrew Whiting defeated Ryan Garner and Anthony Trabert, 8-7, securing the doubles point for Utah State.

In singles action, Poslusny defeated Fought in straight sets the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-2), Peterson defeated Good in the No. 2 spot in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 7-6), and Sweet defeated Sanjay Gaswami in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (7-6, 6-1). In the No. 3 spot, Fritz fell to Jakub Gewert in straight sets (7-5, 6-3). Junior Curran Wearmouth was defeated by Poitena in three sets at the No. 5 spot (7-6, 0-6, 6-3), and junior Andrew Whiting was downed by Garner in straight sets at the No. 6 spot (6-1, 6-1).

Utah State has another home match Friday, Feb. 8 against Montana State. Play is set to begin at 12 p.m. The Aggies then head on the road Saturday Feb. 9 to take on Utah in Salt Lake City.
