Utah State Head Coach Matt Wells
Opening statement:
"My hat's off to those kids in that locker room. What a tremendous win for those kids. They hung together during a tough couple of weeks. A lot of people doubting us out there. It's just a sweet win. It is for all Aggie nation. It's for that Aggie brotherhood. A lot of those guys were back tonight which tells me we are building something special. My hat's off to those players. They came out right from the get go focused and we executed. It was a long time coming for all of Aggie nation."
On Nick Vigil's play:
"What an athlete. What a player. Very, very natural. A phenomenal performance tonight on both sides of the ball. The kid was cramping. The kid was throwing up on the sidelines and I think he threw up on the field once. He came up to me and said don't take me out. Unbelievable performance."
On Darell Garretson's play:
"Here's what he did: he remained calm and composed. That's what he did. For him to come into this environment with everything surrounding the last two weeks, my hat's off to that young man. He's a talented kid. Those kids rallied around him."
On Taysom Hill's injury:
"My heart goes out to him and my heart goes out to that team. There are a lot of talented individuals in that locker room. That's a tough thing. I hate that in sports. We have suffered our share of season ending injuries and that stinks. That kid is a tremendous competitor and I hate that for him."
On winning in Provo:
"It has been a long time. Not just for me personally and our current team, this was a lot of those seniors' third trip down here, but for all of Aggie nation and the guys who have come before us and played. That win was for every one of them. It is a tough place to play and they play traditionally very well. That's a strong program over there. We didn't want that opportunity to slip by. It was a national stage, an ESPN television audience. All I wanted was all they had. If it was good enough then what a feeling we are feeling right now. If it wasn't, then we could all live with it but that's all we wanted. We got it and more, I think."
Sophomore Quarterback Darell Garretson:
"I think the offense played really well tonight. We stuck to our gameplan and had some success running the football which was really important to what we had to do. Our wideouts made plays, Hunter Sharp, Devonte Robinson, they did their thing."
On what this win means to the program:
"I think it's a very big win for our program especially on ESPN. We had a chip on our shoulder and we had something to prove."
Junior Wide Receiver Devonte Robinson
"The offense as a whole played pretty good. This is one of the best performances we've had this year. Darrel played great, the offensive line did a good job, receivers caught the ball, running backs made plays. We came out during the bye week and refocused. We just came out strong."
On the win overall:
"BYU was a big opponent, there were in the top 25 and one of the best teams out there. As a program this is a big win. It's in Utah first of all so it's a rivalry game. For the players, coaches, past and current it was a big win."
Sophomore linebacker/running back Nick Vigil:
"I thought we played well as a team. We really rallied around each other and made some big plays on both sides of the ball."
On what this game means for the offense:
"Offensively we've been missing the big explosive plays that stretches the defense. We were able to get three or four tonight that really hit for big yards. That's huge for our confidence for the rest of the season. We know how long it's been since we've won here and Coach Wells brought it up all week. We all thought we had a chance to beat them if we played our best game which I think we played pretty well tonight."
