Nov. 17, 2014 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State redshirt freshman forward David Collette has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office. Collette is the first Aggie to ever win a MW player of the week award for men's basketball.
For his performances against Weber State and Illinois State, Collette was also named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Nov. 16 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
Collette, a 6-8, 220-pound forward from Murray, Utah (Murray HS), led Utah State to a pair of come-from-behind wins last weekend with a home victory against Weber State (72-61) and a road win at Illinois State (60-55). Against the Wildcats, Collette scored 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting, to go along with six rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots in 27 minutes as the Aggies erased an 18-point halftime deficit. The 22 points by Collette are the most ever scored by a USU freshman in a season opener. Against the Redbirds, Collette scored 17 points as he was 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 at the free throw line. He added four rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the game in 29 minutes. In the second-half against ISU, Collette scored 13 of his 17 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and went 2-for-2 at the line to seal the win in the final seconds as the Aggies erased a 12-point deficit.
For the weekend, Collette averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and 1.0 assist in 28.0 minutes per game, while shooting 72.0 percent from the field (18-25) and 50.0 percent at the free throw line (3-6).
Utah State (2-0, 0-0 MW) continues it's 2014-15 season with a pair of games this week, including facing Santa Clara (2-0) at home on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. (MT), and traveling to Mississippi State (1-0) on Saturday, Nov. 22, for a game at 11 a.m. (MT). The game against the Broncos will be televised regionally on ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain (Comcast Ch. 52/693HD, Dish Network Ch. 414, DirecTV Ch. 683) and live streaming will be available via the Mountain West Network.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Junior guard Makenlee Williams (Syracuse, Utah) averaged 21.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 0.5 assists last weekend as Utah State began its season with a pair of road losses at Oregon (100-77) and at No. 20 Oregon State (85-62). Against the Ducks, Williams scored 22 points as she was 9-of-18 from the field, 1-of-5 from three-point range and 3-of-5 at the free throw line. She also had three steals and three rebounds in 32 minutes. Against the Beavers, she scored 20 points as she shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. She also added three rebounds, three steals and one assist in 35 minutes.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Senior Eric Shellhorn (Montrose, Colo.) helped Utah State to an 11th-place team finish as he placed 20th individually with a time of 30:21.33 over the 10-kilometer course at the NCAA Mountain Regional last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. to earn all-region honors.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Junior Karlee Deeter (Liberty, Utah) helped Utah State to a 16th-place team finish as she placed 56th individually with a time of 22:34.32 over the six-kilometer course at the NCAA Mountain Regional last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M.
FOOTBALL - Sophomore linebacker Nick Vigil (Plain City, Utah) recorded a game-high 13 tackles, to go along with 1.0 tackle for loss, in Utah State's 28-21 Mountain West home win against New Mexico.
VOLLEYBALL - Freshman outside hitter Rachel Gale (Lindon, Utah) hit .190 (24-12-63) and averaged 3.00 kills, 1.38 blocks, 0.75 digs and 3.69 points per set last week as Utah State lost a pair of road matches at Utah Valley (3-0) and at Fresno State (3-2). Against the Wolverines, Gale had eight kills, one block and one dig. Against the Bulldogs, she recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 16 kills and a career-best 10 blocks to go along with five digs, while hitting .275 (16-5-40) in the match.
