Aggies Return to the Court for Morning Matchup vs UNLV

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's volleyball will return to action on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., hosting the UNLV Rebels on Kirby Court at the Wayne Estes Center.

The Aggies will be looking for their first victory in the Mountain West after beginning the conference campaign with losses at Colorado State (3-0) and Wyoming (3-1) and at home against Fresno State (3-1). Utah State is currently 4-13 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain West.

Utah State was led in attacking during its last match by sophomore right side Kayla DeCoursey with a career-high 10 kills, in just her second full match back after suffering a injury during fall camp. Throughout the year, USU has been paced by its outsides in sophomore Rachel Gale and junior Kaylie Kamalu. The duo have recorded 195 and 194 kills, while averaging 3.25 and 3.18 per set, respectively.

Junior setter Erica Moscoso also made a return from injury and started for the Aggies over the past two matches, leading the team in assists at Wyoming (23) and at home against Fresno State (18). During her absence, freshman setter Kassidy Johnson directed the attack and continues to see action while the Aggies are running a 6-2 system, totaling 401 assists on the year and averaging 7.86 per set.

Defensively, junior libero Hannah Gleason has logged double-digit digs in all but four matches this season, totaling 253 and averaging 4.15 per set. Sophomore middle Carly Lenzen paces the Utah State block, recording 54 on the year.

UNLV enters Saturday off of a 3-1 loss at Boise State on Thursday night. Overall, the Rebels are 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West.

UNLV is hitting .230 (642-240-1,751) on the year, third best in the Mountain West, and is led by junior middle Bree Hammel with 159 kills, averaging 3.06 per set. Sophomore setter Alexis Patterson directs the attack, totaling 505 assists and averaging 9.71 on the year.

Defensively, UNLV leads the Mountain West with 2.88 blocks per set and is paced by sophomore middle Ashley Owens with 65 on the year, averaging 1.35 per set, No. 2 in the MW. Hammel is third in the Mountain West, averaging 1.21 blocks per set. Junior defensive specialist Carly Riehl leads the team in digs with 221, averaging 4.25 per set to rank No. 5 in the Mountain West. Opponents have hit .173 against the Rebels this season with 667 kills on 1,877 attempts and 342 errors.

Following the match with UNLV, Utah State will host two more Mountain West matches at home next week, welcoming Boise State on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and San José State on Saturday, Oct. 10. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
