A late comeback put Utah State women's basketball back in the game at Nevada Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies fell to the Wolf Pack, 49-44.

Freshman guard Funda Nakkasoglu was the top scorer for Utah State, tallying 17 on the night. Defensively, freshman guard Tilar Clark added a career-best 10 rebounds to lead the team. Mimi Mungedi was tops for the Wolf Pack, recording a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Utah State held Nevada to shooting just 27.9 percent (17-of-61) from the floor, the lowest percentage of any of USU's opponents this season. With a final pair of free throws, the Aggies narrowly avoided scoring a season-low.

With the loss, Utah State falls 6-18 overall and 3-9 in Mountain West play, while Nevada improves to 7-15 overall and 3-8 in league play with the win. The loss is the fifth-straight for the Aggies, while the win snapped an eight-game losing streak for Nevada.

Utah State was first on the board Wednesday night as Nakkasoglu drained and early three. The next early minutes of the game were high-energy, but lacked offensive evidence. The Aggies found that early lead, keeping it until a Nevada trey.

The score stayed in the Wolf Pack's favor until the final five minutes of the half, when senior forward Franny Vaaulu made her first bucket of the night to even things up. The remainder of the half was back-and-forth, as Nevada's Emily Burns missed a last-second three, sending the teams to the halftime break tied at 24.

The start of the second half had a slow start, similar to the opening minutes of the game. Nevada gained momentum, led by Mungedi who scored the first six points for the Wolf Pack. Another triple from Nakkasoglu gave the Aggies a spark, breaking the six-minute scoring drought for USU.

A Vaaulu trey cut into the Wolf Pack's momentum and ending another long drought for the Aggies. An old fashioned three-point play from Nakkasoglu put Nevada back into a single-digit advantage heading into the final stretch of the game.

Vaaulu struck again as the clock hit the two-minute mark, forcing a Nevada timeout. The Aggies returned to the court down four. After a stretch of even, back-and-forth play, an Anchling trey made it a one-possession game.

Vaaulu missed a pair of free throws, but forced a turnover on the return where Anchling drew a foul made two shots of her own from the stripe. With 15 seconds remaining, the Wolf Pack had a one-point lead and capitalized on two free throws. The Aggies were again forced to foul, where Nevada's Emily Burns made the two shots, clinching the victory.

Overall, Utah State shot 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three and 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from the free throw line. Nevada shot 27.9 percent (17-of-61) from the field, 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from three and 68.8 percent (8-of-12) from the free throw line.

Utah State has the weekend off with its second bye of conference play. The Aggies return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 18 when they host San Jose State. The 7 p.m. (MT) game will be USU's annual Play4Kay
