2015 USU Football Signing Day Release
Utah State head football coach Matt Wells announced his third signing class on Wednesday, as part of National Signing Day. The class, which includes 18 total players, is comprised of 11 high school athletes, five junior college transfers and two four-year transfers. Of those 18 signees, five are mid-year transfers who are already enrolled at Utah State and three will serve a two-year LDS Church Mission before enrolling at USU.
The state of Utah produced the most signees with six, including one from Cache Valley, followed by three players from California, two players from both Florida and Oregon, and one player each from Alabama, Arizona, Hawaii, Texas and Washington.
"We are really excited about this signing class and the young men who will represent Utah State University both on and off the football field," said Wells. "What impresses me the most when I look at this group as a whole is the athleticism and overall length we were able to sign."
The greatest emphasis in Wells' third recruiting class was at offensive line as Utah State signed five student-athletes at that position, to go along with three linebackers and three defensive backs, and two players each at wide receiver and tight end. The Aggies rounded out the 2014 class with one quarterback, one running back and one defensive end.
"We met many needs with this group, especially on the offensive line and in back end of our defense at both linebacker and in the secondary. We also were able to identify several players who will be able to come in and compete for immediate playing time."
In all, Utah State's 2015 class includes 11 recruits on offense and seven defensive players.
"Another aspect of our recruiting that was met was emphasizing the state of Utah and our mission program. The state of Utah has always been and will always be our number one priority, as well as our mission kids and our Polynesian connections, and all three of these areas were met with productive numbers."
Five new players are already attending classes at Utah State in junior offensive linemen Preston Brooksby and Jude Hockel, junior tight end Chris Copier, junior safety Dallin Leavitt and junior running back Devante Mays.
With the conclusion of signing day, Utah State will now prepare for spring practice which begins on Monday, March 16 and concludes with its annual Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m.
The national letter-of-intent signing period for football began on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and concludes on Wednesday, April 1.
