LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head softball coach Steve Johnson has announced the signing of Elysia Mesa to the 2015-16 roster. With the addition of Mesa, the Aggies will have five newcomers on next year's team.

"We're excited to have Elysia join our program next year," Johnson said. "She is an athletic shortstop who has a strong bat, both of which will be an asset to our lineup next year. In addition, she has college experience which will be valuable as we continue to build the program here."

Mesa, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., joins the Aggies from Phoenix College. This season, Mesa was the starting shortstop for the Bears, batting .363 with six home runs and 23 RBI. With one regular season game remaining this season, along with the Division II regional playoffs, Mesa has helped the team to a 47-9 record.

Mesa spent the 2013 season at Southeast Missouri State. There, she started 32 games at second base, while earning All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. She was a four-year letterwinner at Gilbert High School and played club softball for Arizona Hotshots Gold-Davis.
