Oct. 15, 2016 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer (9-6-0, 5-2-0 MW) is set to continue its weekend of Mountain West competition in a match at San Diego State (6-6-2, 4-1-2 MW) on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Aggies and Aztecs will meet at 2 p.m. (MT).
This season's home and Mountain West action will continue to be broadcast online through the Aggie Digital Network and the Mountain West Network. Fans can watch every Utah State home match, as well as every conference match in Logan or on the road. Live stats and play-by-play information will be available through GameTracker, while updates will also be provided through the team's social media outlets.
San Diego State enters the match with a 6-6-2 overall record, going 4-1-2 in conference play so far. Last weekend, the Aztecs went 1-0-1 in Nevada, tying UNLV, 1-1, before defeating the Wolf Pack, 2-1. Both games required two overtime periods. SDSU opened the weekend in a 2-0 home win over Boise State.
Junior forward Aliyah Utush is the top points-scorer for the Aztecs this season, with three goals and four assists for 11 total points. Junior forward Angela Mitchell has three goals on the year, while seven other players have one goal apiece. Redshirt freshman Gabby English has guarded the net for the full season, allowing 21 goals while tallying 63 saves. In all, San Diego State has scored 13 goals, while allowing 21. Mike Friesen is in his 10th year as the head coach at San Diego State, where he has compiled a record of 117-63-25.
The Aztecs return eight starters and 15 total letterwinners from a squad that finished 15-4-1 overall and 9-0-1 in Mountain West action a year ago. The team also added 10 newcomers to this year's roster. San Diego State won the outright Mountain West title last season, but fell to San José State in the tournament championship game. Utah State is looking for its first-ever win over the Aztecs, as San Diego State leads the all-time series, 4-0-1. The teams met in Logan last year, with SDSU earning the 2-0 victory.
For the Aggies, senior forward Jessica Brooksby leads the team in scoring with eight goals and eight assists. Sophomore Grace McGuire has spent the majority of time in the net for Utah State, allowing 12 goals while tallying 55 saves.
