Nov. 16, 2016 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's basketball (2-0, 0-0 MW) continues its season-opening homestand hosting UC Irvine (0-2, 0-0 Big West) on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m.
Thursday's game is Utah State Athletics' Kids' Day, where nearly 2,000 local elementary and junior high school students will be in attendance in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
All regular-season home and Mountain West games will continue to be broadcast through the Aggie Digital Network and the Mountain West Network, powered by Campus Insiders. Live stats and play-by-play information will be available through GameTracker, while updates will also be provided through the team's social media outlets. Utah State women's basketball games are also broadcast on the radio through KVNU. Games will be played at 107.7 FM in Cache Valley with Craig Hislop on the call. Links to each option will be available online prior to every game.
UC Irvine enters the week with an 0-2 record, having opened the year with a 79-69 home loss to Saint Louis and a 102-38 loss at Gonzaga. The Anteaters will play at Idaho State on Saturday, Nov. 19, following their trip to Logan.
UC Irvine returns three starters and eight total letterwinners from last year's squad that finished with a 4-27 record. So far this season, senior forward Shereen Sutherland leads the Anteaters in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. As a team, UC Irvine is shooting 31.6 percent (37-of-117) from the field, 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from the 3-point line and 68.6 percent (24-of-35) from the free throw line. The Anteaters are averaging 53.5 points per game, while allowing an average of 90.5 points from its opponents. Tamara Inoue is in her first season as the head coach at UC Irvine.
All-time, UC Irvine leads the series against the Aggies, 7-3. Two of Utah State's wins over the Anteaters have come in the Spectrum. The teams played two seasons together in the Big West after the reinstatement of the Utah State program in 2003, before the Aggies joined the Western Athletic Conference. Thursday will be the first meeting between Utah State and UC Irvine since 2012. The Anteaters won that game in Logan, scoring a 3-pointer with three seconds left to go up 71-70.
For Utah State, sophomore guard Rachel Brewster leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. Freshman forward Shannon Dufficy is tops in the rebound column, averaging 11.5 per game. In all, the Aggies are shooting 36.6 percent (52-of-142) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from the 3-point line and 68.4 percent (26-of-38) from the free throw line.
