LOGAN, Utah - Utah State sophomore Jaime Barajas has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the conference office. Overall, it is the first time this season and second time in his career he has earned the award.

Last week, Barajas, a native of Woodland Hills, Calif., posted a 4-0 combined singles and doubles record in leading Utah State to a 2-0 home record with wins against Grand Canyon (7-0) and Idaho State (7-0). Against the Antelopes, Barajas teamed up with freshman Samuel Serrano for a 6-2 doubles win at the third position that clinched the doubles point for USU. Then, Barajas disposed of the reigning WAC Player of the Week, Mitch Maroscher, at the No. 1 singles spot in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-4). Against the Bengals, Barajas and Serrano again partnered up to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the third position. Then, Barajas topped ISU's Sebastian Edin at the No. 1 singles spot in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). With his two singles wins, Barajas moved into a tie for ninth place on USU's career singles wins list with 36.

Utah State is back in action on Friday, Feb. 5, when it hosts Southern Utah at 11 a.m. and Montana State at 7 p.m. in another doubleheader at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. Admission to all Utah State home tennis matches is free.
